Class D audio amplifier with Ferroxcube gapped toroid output filter
This brochure explains the principle of a class D audio amplifier and the function of the choke in the output filter. In an International Rectifier demo board, one of the two metal alloy powder toroids is replaced by a gapped ferrite toroid (with such a number of turns that inductance is equal). Performance is compared and about equal. The choke design procedure is explained with gapped toroid I²L curves. Filter design basics are also given in the annex.
